Restoring Your Smile

Dental Bridges in Naples, FL

You’ve had impeccable oral hygiene all your life. Yet, here you are missing a tooth, maybe even more than one. You don’t want dentures. Perhaps a dental bridge is the answer for you.

What is a bridge?

A bridge is a dental restoration that bridges the space left by one or more missing teeth. It’s made of two crowns for the teeth on either side of the space (abutment teeth) and a new manmade tooth or teeth in between. These artificial teeth are called pontics and are usually made of porcelain, gold, alloys or a combination.

Types of bridges

We offer three types of bridges, one to suit whatever configuration your missing tooth has created:

  • Traditional – This is the most common type, used when you still have teeth on either side of the opening. For this type of bridge, we create crowns for the abutment teeth and attach a bridge made of either ceramics or porcelain fused to metal to each crown.
  • Cantilever – We use this type if you have abutment teeth on only one side of the opening.
  • Maryland-bonded – Also called a resin-bonded or Maryland bridge, we make this bridge of plastic teeth and gums supported by a metal framework.

After consulting with you, we’ll recommend the type that’s best for you.

The advantages of dental bridges

If you’ve been living with the pain of a bad tooth or are uncomfortable with the spaces created by missing teeth, a dental bridge offers you an affordable way back to a more normal life. Dental bridges are the modern alternative to dentures and offer the following advantages:

  • The return of your smile
  • The ability to chew and speak normally
  • Restoration of the shape of your face, which may have been distorted by the spaces left by the missing teeth
  • Better distribution of your bite and chewing forces, which may have become uneven due to the missing teeth
  • Prevention of your remaining teeth from drifting out of position

Of course, the greatest advantage of a dental bridge is that you will look and feel more like your real self.

The process

Plan on at least two visits following your initial consultation.

  • First visit – We’ll make an impression to serve as the model for your bridge, pontic and crowns, which will be made at our dental lab. We’ll also make you a temporary bridge to wear until your next visit.
  • Second visit – We’ll adjust and seat your permanent bridge but with temporary cement so we can check your new restoration a few more times and make any necessary adjustments.
  • Follow-up visits – After we’re sure we have the perfect fit, the permanent bridge will be bonded into place.
